Your favourite The Little Gym story?

A long time ago in 2003, in a galaxy far, far away… PJ started a wild and wacky adventure working for The Little Gym, Philippines. The Queen sent him to annual TLG Training Workshops where he learned the art of being silly. In 2009, PJ swam the seas to the island of The Little Gym, Singapore. He conquered more TLG Training Workshops and even a TLG International Reunion. In 2015, PJ flew all the way to the kingdom of The Little Gym, Australia working alongside the four Kings. He continues to spend his days mastering the force…of fun, and training Padawan apprentices. The end…not!

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

I have worked with all age groups throughout my 7 years with TLG. And have many stories, the most memorable coming from the ‘Funny Bugs’. These 3 and 4 year old little bundles of inquisitive energy have the innocent, imaginative personalities that bring smiles, tears, belly laughs and just the most perfect outlook on the world around them to each class every week. Seeing a nervous, shy child enter the gym and leave with big smiles and confidence reaching the roof is the most heart-warming, wonderful feeling for any teacher.

How did you get interested in sports?

Sport has been a big part of my life, being part of netball and hockey teams from a young age and carrying on when my children were growing up. I discovered athletics when I was 9 enjoying competing at school and at club level, leading to competing for England at the age of 14 in 100 and 200m sprints. Where have you lived? I am from Berkshire, England and have lived there most of my life, I have been lucky enough to move back to Perth, W.A. where I live with my daughter, and I work here in Sydney during school term time.

What do you love to do in your free time?
During my free time I love to explore the beaches and national parks, hiking, swimming, taking in the outdoors. When on holidays back in Perth I enjoy spending time with my daughter horse riding, visiting my niece and nephew, paddle boarding, BMXing, walking the dogs and BBQ’s with the family.

What can't you live without?

I can’t live without bug hugs with my son and daughter…even if they are 18 and 21!

During my advanced classes I pride myself on pushing the kids to strive to preform and try new and different skills each and every day. I had a very shy girl that started in our Twisters class who didn’t really have confidence in their ability to do the different skills. Her first class blew everyone away, even herself. For weeks after we continued to grow and build her skills not only on the beam and the bars but also her tumbling skills. It was in show week she wanted to try and add her barani at the end of her tumbling routine. It was then in front of all her class mates and her family she did her first ever barani. I will never forget her face filled with excitement and my face full of joy and proudness that she just proven that she able to hold her own and is capable of anything.

How did you get interested in sports?

I didn’t really have a choice to be interested in sports or not as my father was playing professional rugby league for the Parramatta Eels at the time I was born. I was only a few days old when I attended my first ever rugby league game. Through my years I was encouraged by my parents to try as many different things as I could. I started dancing at a very young age and once finding my passion for netball I stop dancing. Throughout my time at school I had represented my school in Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming, Touch Football, Netball, Basketball, Cross Country to just name a few. I have represented NSW for Athletics and have played repressive netball from the age of 11. I now not only still play representative netball but also coach at a representative level.

What do you love to do in your free time?
I don’t often get very much spare time while working for The Little Gym and studying at University but when I do love to catch on WWE, knitting or catching up with my friends. I also enjoy reading or going on road trips.

What can't you live without?

Like any millennium I can’t live without my phone. It is like my right arm without it I feel lost. I also couldn’t live without food. I LOVE FOOD!

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

I have so many stories about The little Gym but one of my favourite moments has to be when one of my Flips students did her pullover! We had been practicing our pullovers for our show week but unfortunately this student was having some difficulty with her pullover and was unable to kick her legs over the bar to complete her pullover. At the end of the show I gave the children free time to take their parents around and show off some other skills they had learnt this year. This one student went over to the single bar and tried running her feet up the cheese practicing her pull over. I went over to help give her a spot and support as she tried one more time running her feet up as fast as she could she kicked her legs all the way over the bar! She finally did it! She ran over to her mum and started crying from happiness! It was so amazing watching a student who had been trying so hard to nail this skill finally achieve it and the best part was having her family there to witness it.

How did you get interested in sports?

From a young age I have always loved being active and joining a range of different sports. At the age of 3 I started dancing ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop and even taught it at my dance studio when I turned 16. I also did competitive gymnastics from ages 9-11 and in-between those years I tried out cheerleading too. I also played soccer for 2 years when i was younger and in high school I participated in representative sports for soccer, basketball and volleyball. I love playing sports, being outdoors and staying active!

What do you love to do in your free time?

During my free time i enjoy spending time with my family and catching up with friends, going out to socials or dinner to talk about our days and celebrate different events. I also love to go shopping and laying in the sun at the beach, I could spend hours shopping or relaxing by the water!

What can't you live without?

I most definitely cannot live without the beach or being outdoors! I love going to new places and exploring or climbing around wether it be through the rocks at the beach or going for a bush walk. I am always looking for new exciting places to go with jump rocks, waterfalls or even just to see the beautiful scenery.

Where have you lived?

I have lived in Sydney Australia for majority of my life but in 2016 for 6 months I moved over to Texas USA to live with some of my family, I also worked at The Little Gym over there and it was so much fun! I love travelling and can't wait to go to more places around the world.

Your favourite The Little Gym story?

I definitely cannot pick one favourite story at The Little Gym because everyday is a new and exciting experience. I love watching children come into the gym for the very first time and loving every moment of it. It is so magical to see when children walk in and feel like they are in another world, a place they can be who ever they want to be. Seeing their confidence boost and their constant progression over the semester, I genuinely feel that I am making a difference in a child’s life both physically and emotionally.

How did you get interested in sports?

I started playing sports from a young age. In my primary school years I decided to get into Netball and more recently I started playing soccer with a few of my friends. I love to stay healthy and fit, and I found that playing non-competitive sports was the best way for me.

What do you love to do in your free time?
In my free time I love shopping, watching movies, playing soccer, baking, listening to music and the list goes on. I am a huge make-up and hair addict! I love to go crazy on buying products and trying them out on my family and friends. Coming from a big family, I love spending time with them especially my many nieces and nephews.

What can't you live without?

I can’t live without food. Food is life.
